Lock up Demonstration

Lock Up Principle

When granular materials are channelled into a space with a fixed geometry, the forces between the particles act in multiple directions, both against one another and the surfaces of the space. When a channel is designed with the correct dimensions these interparticle forces cause the material to become locked together in a fixed pattern within the space.
