K-Tron Pharmaceutical Feeder Is Now Five Years Old; Features Design Enhancements Based on Industry Experience
PITMAN, NJ (February 3, 2006 )- The K-Tron Pharmaceutical feeder line was first introduced five years ago and was the first custom designed feeder for use in the pharmaceutical industry. The feeder line has received wide acceptance. Working closely with global pharmaceutical customers, K-Tron has implemented a number of design enhancements.
Engineering design improvements include:
- Seal design improvements including added O Ring on screw shafts for better seal, minimal leakage
- Standard purge fittings on both models PHT20 and PHT35, assuring no movement of product to bearing area and providing positive purge for inerting
- Angled machine face on agitator mating surface to bowl for drainage into bowl during cleaning
- New scale design featuring internal wiring of motor cables and internal air routing for purging feeder seals, intrinsic safe option for European ATEX 2GD and U.S. Class I Div 1 hazardous area applications
- Introduction of pharmaceutical T12 feeder, serving applications as low as 20 grams/hour.
In addition K-Tron has engineered specialty designs for glove box integration—with the feeder mounted both inside and outside of glove box walls, lubrication of tablet press tools, dispensary applications, feeding into continuous extrusion and direct compression processes, integration of feeder with split butterfly valves or other high containment valves for product and process containment, specialty designs for jet milling, pressure compensation and handling of poorly flowing materials.
All models of the K-Tron Pharma feeder offer clear separation between the production area and the drive. The feeder is designed according to cGMP guidelines, easy to clean and can be disassembled without tools. The feeder offers the option of a stainless steel cover for the motor and gear box and can also be outfitted for Wash in Place (WIP).
